Valerie Jean Johnson

Valerie Jean Johnson was born September 14,1964. She was the daughter of the late
Joseph Francis Johnson and Peggy Alice Young-Johnson. She departed this world on
Saturday, July 10, 2021. Valerie gave her life to the Lord in 1976 at Shiloh Baptist Church in
Palmyra, VA. She was most recently a member of Chestnut Grove Baptist Church in
Albemarle County.
She worked for many years at Hardees and was known for her biscuits. People would often
ask who made them and if they answer was anyone other than her, they would pass. During
her time at Hardee’s, she also worked at St. Anne’s Belfield Upper School in the kitchen, as
well as ran her own daycare business for years on Longwood Drive. Her greatest
accomplishment was working for over 15 years for the Charlottesville City School System
as a bus driver. She raised so many children outside of her own and loved watching them
grow into adults. Many of the parents of her students from the bus described her as the
most vigilant school bus driver (Bus 18 and 35). She was always looking out for her
students and saving any mementos they gave her. She did this because she loved them
and her job that much. Many times, you could catch her working long hours driving her bus
around town.
Valerie leaves to cherish her memory her three children Marequiz Johnson of Hampton,
Monica Johnson (Javon) of Waynesboro, and Tyler Saunders of Charlottesville. She also
leaves behind two sisters Ruth Williams (Taft) of Palmyra and Francine Payne of Louisa.
Her nieces Ja’Mayah Johnson and Theresa Williams of Charlottesville, and her nephew
Jerome Payne of Louisa. Along with two great nieces whom she loved dearly, Sanora
Durden-Williams and Sadeja Williams of Charlottesville. She found an extended family via
the Terrell family of Albemarle County and was thankful to them for always treating her like
their own.
