Roger Lee Barbour

Roger “Rocky” Barbour was born September 8th,1958 in Charlottesville, VA. He was born to the late Roscoe Barbour and Ruby Jones-Barbour. Roger gained his wings and entered his eternal resting place on February 4th, 2024.

 At an early age Roger joined Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Greenwood, VA where he served on the choir and usher board. Roger attended Albemarle County Public Schools. Roger wore many hats in his career. He worked for Concrete Contractors pouring concrete and would often say as he traveled to different locations in the state “I poured that concrete or I built that wall”. He was a cook for many high-end restaurants in Charlottesville, VA. Roger also went to Telluride, Colorado to build a million dollar home. Roger worked as an electrician asst. for Father & Sons Electrical. He would also set homes for Heartland Homes. Had his body still allowed, he would still continue to do the work he loved doing and was a very hard worker with every job he completed. In his spare time he would keep his home and yard well maintenance and beautiful at all times. He enjoyed hanging with friends, fishing, playing horseshoes, shooting cornhole, shooting pool and enjoyed scratch tickets. Rocky also loved football and was a DIEHARD Dallas Cowboys fan, everyone who knew him knew he was Dallas Cowboys win or lose. MOSTLY Rocky enjoyed babysitting his grandbaby “Booty” (Jaliyah). She was the air he breathed…if Rocky had a choice of staying here for her he would do just that, he loved his “Booty” just that much.

 In 1994, Roger met the love of his life Hope Renee Patterson. Roger and Hope dated for 7 years and moved to Alexandria, VA and they later moved to Laurel, Maryland where they continued to love each other and became one in 2001. In 2004 after their union the two were blessed with a beautiful daughter; their miracle; Kennedy and decided to move back to Buckingham, VA in 2005 to raise their miracle.

 In addition to his parents Roscoe Barbour & Ruby Jones-Barbour, Roger is proceeded in death by several loved ones including his loving Mother-in-Love Lillian Jones-Patterson.

 Rocky leaves to forever cherish his memories and to carry his love on; his loving wife of 22 years; Hope Patterson. One daughter; Kennedy Barbour of Buckingham, VA. Two sons; Derrick Archie (Amanda) of Waynesboro, VA, Brandon Payne (Ashley) of Louisa, VA. Eight Grandchildren; Jaliyah "Booty" Barbour, Jaden Archie, Isaiah Payne, Schylar Sheffer, Alyssa Archie, Devin Schiflet, Kiara Schiflet and Kylee Kovar (Jeff). One Great-Grandchild; Rowan Kovar. Two sisters; Ruby Smith of Greenwood, VA and Romande Gardner of Charlottesville, VA. Two Special Godchildren Latonya Hanes of Maryland, VA and Kyree Koonce of Charlottesville, VA.  Two special individuals whom he loved as another mother and father; Earl & Barbara Dunn of Buckingham, VA. His two dogs Riley and Kash. And a host of Aunts, Uncles, Nieces, Nephews, Cousin and special friends.
