Robert Lewis Edmonds, Sr. of Bremo Bluff, VA, departed this life on Jun 29, 2022.
Robert’s journey in life began on November 18, 1929. He was the eldest son of the late Earl and
Ellen Edmonds. He was preceded in death by his wife Christine Edmonds, son Hershell
Edmonds, sister Pearl Mayo, and three brothers-in-law, Russell, Alphonso, and James Dabney.
Robert was a man of Christ and was a member of West Bottom Baptist Church, Bremo Bluff,
VA.
Robert is known throughout the community as a hard worker from a very young age, entering
the workforce at 16, and serving his community and country. He is best remembered as the
“Ice-man”, one of several positions he held at George Valley Country Store. During the Korean
War (1950-1953), he served his country in the United States Army. Upon returning to the United
States, he re-entered the workforce and held a position at Fork Union Military Academy and
later at the Buckingham Slate Quarry, where he worked until retirement.
Robert was an agricultural enthusiast. He enjoyed being outdoors and living on the land. He
took pride in growing seasonal gardens and raising an assortment of livestock, especially his
beloved cows, which he raised from birth until maturity.
Robert was a man who enjoyed being around family and friends. In his later years, he sought
enjoyment in attending local car shows with his sons Robert Jr. and Lindsey.
Robert is survived by his four sons, Robert Jr., Lindsey, Emilian, and Cecil Edmonds (Camila);
twelve grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, nine sisters, Gladys Anderson, Anna-Bell Lane,
Reatha Holloman, Juanita Edmonds, Marian Hines, Patricia Young( David), Earliner Edmonds,
Hazel Carter(Lloyd), and Brenda Edmonds; sister-in-law Lillian Taylor and brother-in-law Mac
Dabney, along with a host of other family and friends.
