Robert Donald Adams, Sr., 52, of Troy, Virginia passed away on January 16, 2023 at University of Virginia Medical Center surrounded by his wife, family & friends. Born on September 18, 1970 in Charlottesville, Virginia to Rev. Herbert Adams Jr and the late Elizabeth Young Adams.
He was preceded in death by his mother; 2 sisters, Lillian Mae Adams and Essi Irene Adams; and extended-son Henry Thornton.
Robert Donald Adams Sr. was affectionately known as "Big Rob” and “Stump”. Being the youngest of 7 children the nickname “Babyboy” was a given. He attended Fluvanna County Public Schools and later graduated from Fluvanna County High School in 1989. At a early age “Big Rob” began singing with his father’s group “The Jewel Gospel Singers” and joined the Thessalonia Baptist Church. He later became one of the lead singers and went on to sing with them for over 45 years. He was a skilled bass guitarist for numerous years and played for West Bottom, Thessalonia, Third Liberty and Mount Pero Baptist Church. “Big Rob” was a man of music with music being his love and his passion. His music genres included gospel, jazz, country, R&B nd especially southern soul. He enjoyed different hobbies and crafts including being a exceptional cook and being an upholsterer where he owned and operated Adams Upholstery but he mainly enjoyed spending time and sharing laughs and love with his family. In his recent years he began to DJ (Live Sounds by Big Rob) where he DJed events such as car shows, weddings and birthday parties. “Big Rob” was well known, respected, and very loved in his community as well as his family due to his kindness and his personality which affected so many.

His extended children; 4 sons; Gevis Dickerson (Andreas) Tampa, FL, Obadiah Smith, Melatiyah Benyisrael of Henrico, VA and Orlando Tonie of Charlottesville, VA; 3 daughters; Kelayah Dickerson of Troy, VA, Julie Thornton and Victoria Jackson of Charlottesville, VA.; 1 aunt; Margaret Young; Father-in-law Edward Wilson (Diane) of Petersburg, VA ; Mother-in-law Minnie Cole (Larry) of S. Chesterfield, VA ; 1 brother in-law; Edward Wilson, Jr. (Sharon) of Michigan and 1 sister-in-law Margo Fisher (Dominic) of Petersburg, VA; Guardian Son Messiah Fisher of Petersburg and His Bonus son Terrill Thornton, Jr of Powhatan VA.; grandchildren & great grandchildren (including Rayyah Ivy Dickerson, the apple of his eye!) A host cousins, nieces (one devoted like a daughter- Melanie Jones), nephews, and friends (two devoted) Joe Lewis and Rev. Dr. Patrick Bland.
