In Loving Memory of Mattie Diane Bryant

Ms. Mattie Diane Bryant of Palmyra, VA departed this life on April 13, 2023 at the University of
Virginia Hospital. She was born on March 5th,1958 and was the eldest daughter of the late
Rufus Raymond Bryant and Hattie Palmer Bryant.
Mattie was educated at S.C. Abrams School in Palmyra, VA. She was a Caretaker for a number
of years. She started at UVA Hospital as a Custodian before transitioning her services to
Fluvanna County Public Schools for 30 years for which she retired.
Proceedings in her death were her Father Rufus Raymond Bryant, her Mother Hattie Palmer
Bryant, her two sisters Marietta Jane Bryant, Angela Laverne Bryant, and her nephew Quentin
Lorenzo Bryant.
Mattie was a loving, compassionate, kind, mother, grandmother, and friend. Mattie’s passion
was to love and care for others but most of all cooking was her joy. She was very family
oriented. She loved to crochet, play spades, watch westerns, listen to music, and watch soap
operas. At work all co-workers loved her. She encouraged and counseled other co-workers. She
taught her co-workers how to cook.
She is survived by her loving daughter Alicia Bryant of Charlottesville, VA; a devoted son Irving
Bryant (LeAngela Thomas) of Bremo Bluff, VA; a loving partner Irvin Washington Jr of Palmyra,
VA; seven grandchildren whom she cherished dearly, Heaven, Kelsi, Sarai, Nasir, Me’arah,
Isaiah, and Irmias. Her siblings are Theresa Bryant (Joseph Young) of Lake Monticello, VA;
Robert Bryant of Palmyra, VA; Susan Banks (Solomon Banks) of Scottsville, VA; James Bryant
(Teresa Wheeler) of Charlottesville, VA; & Timothy Bryant of Bremo Bluff, VA. And a host of
nieces (great nieces) nephews (great nephews). A host of relatives & friends. Beloved Friends
Bernard Banks, Inez Woodson, Dorothy Tyree, Diana Hicks, & Revered Jessica Jackson.
