Mary Opie White was born on July 31, 1962, to the late Thelma Opie. On Monday, November 22, 2021, Mary entered her eternal rest at the Centra Southside Community Hospital, Farmville, Virginia after a brief illness.
Mary attended Buckingham Public Schools and upon graduating in 1980, she attended Virginia State University. After graduating in 1985, Mary began her teaching career in Buckingham for over 35 years.
Mary loved her students and was totally dedicated to them. Each student was treated as if they were her own children. She will be remembered for her compassion, dedication, and humbleness. Mary’s caring spirit for people is a testament that will be greatly missed.
Mary is survived by her husband of 23 years, Alonzo White; her mother-in-law, Cleo Opie; brother Howard Opie (Audrey); and a host of relatives and friends.
Life is a stopping place, a pause in what’s to be,
A resting place along the road to sweet eternity.
We all have different journeys, different paths along the way,
We all were meant to learn some things, but never meant to stay…
Our destination is a place far greater than we know,
For some the journey is quicker, for some the journey is slow.
And when the journey finally ends, we’ll claim the great reward,
And find an everlasting peace, together with the Lord.
