Obituary

Mary Pendleton received her wings on April 4,2023. She was born December 17,1932 in Philadelphia PA. To the late George Flemming and Essie Wright. Mary worked as a CNA at Van Duyn Nursing and Rehab Facility for many years until she retired, she loved working the Night Shift. She then became a Foster Mother for 2 brothers and 1 sister to keep them together. She later went on to work in the Syracuse School District as a Foster GrandMother. Which she really enjoyed doing until her health did not allow her anymore. Mother Pendleton or Nana Doo as some would call her. Mother Pendleton was a member of Four Square Gospel COGIC for over 50 years. She was over the youth choir when she first moved to Syracuse back in 1972. She sold many dinners to help with the building fund, from her own home she made what we call honey drippers (frozen cool aide in a cup in many flavors) this was also her way of helping the church raise money. Kids came from all over just to buy one. She was on the Usher Board for her local church as well as being on the State Usher Board for Western New York First Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction of the COGIC. Mary was a woman that would open her home to anyone that needed a place to stay, it did not matter if she knew you or not. At least twice a month she would cook and invite one of the families from the church over for dinner on Sunday. She got her greatest joy when it came to cooking. She was also a great singer and tambourine player. There was no song that she did not know, I don’t care how old it was. If you wanted a song and didn’t know the words, ask Mother Pendleton, she knew it. She also loved word search puzzles and reading the Bible, you could always find those on her bed.

Mary is preceded in death by 1 sister Jessie Mae Flemming and 4 brothers John Flemming,Willie Flemming,Calvin Flemming andCharles Wright.

She leaves to cherish her memories 8 children Pastor Patricia Washington (late Pastor Tedd Washington) Charles Jackson, Priscilla Jackson, Jacquelyn MCCoy (Phil) Jackette Burton, Anthony Coates (Sylvia) Betty Jackson, Charlotte Gregory (Gerald). A host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren. Along with friends’ family and loved ones. We can’t forget her Four Square Gospel COGIC church family and of course her godchildren, Keith Colvin, Archie and Madelene Barkins.
