Marshall Haywood Payne Sr entered into eternal rest on Thursday, December 29, 2022. He was
born on February 5, 1948, to the late Homer Payne and Estelle Johnson Payne. Marshall attended SC
Abrams. He was employed by several different employers over the years, North Anna Power Plant, Dee
Shoring Construction and ending with Fork Union Military Academy. He was a member of Thessalonia
Baptist Church. He loved to dance and was always the life of the party. He loved his cars, and his
favorites were his 1969 and 1984 Camaro’s.
Marshall was preceded in death by his father Homer Payne, mother Estelle Payne Johnson,
brother Louis Payne Sr, grandmother Bessie Johnson, father-in-law Clinton (Les) Lane, sister-in-law
Darlene Payne and Nina Lane. He leaves to cherish his wife of 20 years Lillian Payne, three sons Andre
Lane of Richmond, VA, Marshall Payne Sr (Claudia) of Charlottesville, VA and Taquan Payne (Maryland).
Three daughters Zara Lane of Richmond, VA, Brenda Harris of Charlottesville, VA and Toyia Patterson of
New York. Seven grandchildren - Khalil, Salethia, Shaquita, Tyrik, Sharesha, Dennis, and Zaquan; 4 great-
grandkids. A mother-in-law Ellen Lane of Arvonia, VA, one brother Fermy Payne of Columbia, VA, one
sister Mary Bowles of Columbia, VA. 5 sister in laws Rosa Payne Columbia, VA, Gale Jackson (Tommy) of
Montpelier, VA, Dorothy Swinson of Richmond, VA, Marilyn Glover (Furman) of Fredericksburg, VA, Lisa
Miller (Steven) of North Carolina. A devoted uncle Robert Johnson of Arvonia, VA. A host of aunts,
nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends that loved him dearly. Devoted friends Allen Parrish, Richard
Lewis, and Robert (Bobby) James.
