Lester Boatwright Obituary

It is always difficult saying goodbye to someone we love and cherish. Lester Leroy Boatwright departed this life on Thursday, January  25, 2024. He was born in Cumberland, Virginia on April 4, 1960 to Willie Sue Foster Boatwright and the late Ervin Lee Boatwright of Cumberland, Virginia. His sense of humor, larger than life personality, and blatant honesty was experienced by all he encountered. He was fondly known and embraced as Boo, Dad, Papa, LL, Stoney, and Champ. Admittedly, he was more esteemed to Boo.

He was educated in the Cumberland County Public School System and was known for his steadfast work ethic until his health declined. At an early age Lester dedicated his life to the Lord and became a member of Mount Olive Baptist Church in Cumberland, Virginia and later became a member of Spreading Oak Baptist Church in Arvonia, VA. He may not have attended a brick and mortar church regularly; however, his faith sustained him. He loved his family, "My Boo" (Alice), "My boys" (Mel and Chuck), "Papa's guys" (Zai, Jay, Ky, Coby, and Izzy), dancing, partying, enjoying cold beer, and having a great time --he was the life of the party.

Lester was preceded in death by his father, Ervin Lee Boatwright; his brothers:  Raymond Earl Boatwright and Kimothy Dwayne Boatwright; and his father-in-law Carey Maxey.

He leaves to cherish his precious memories: His loving, attentive, and devoted wife Alice Maxey Boatwright of over 44 years; His two sons Jamell (Clarissa) Maxey and Tyrell Maxey; His five grandsons Zaivyon, Jayden, Mekyhi, Jacoby, and Isaiah Maxey (Brandi Jones whom he always considered his daughter-in-law); His mother, Willie Sue Boatwright of Cumberland VA; two brothers Ervin Lee Boatwright (Doretha), Jr. and Bruce Boatwright (Pearl); one aunt Mary Allen (Joseph, Sr.); two uncles Lester and Avon Foster; mother-in-law, Lovella Maxey; four brothers-in-law Michael, Carey Jr., Martin, and Clifton (Amanda) Maxey; three sisters-in-law Sylvia (Wade) Lee; Teresa (Mike) Woodson, Vivian Maxey, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, friends, and co-workers. Lester had several devoted friends including Steve (Tonya) Cooke and Susie Stafford.
