LaVerne Taylor Anderson, or "Verne" as she was affectionally called by her family and friends was the first-born child to the late Alease Taylor and Curtis E. Taylor, Sr. on April 7th, 1952 in Columbia, Virginia. LaVerne passed away peacefully at Bon Secours Mercy Health Hospice with her family by her side on Sunday, December 31st, 2023. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald E. Anderson, Sr., her parents and three of her siblings, Curtis Jr., Andre “Darnell”, and Yvonne.
LaVerne accepted Jesus Christ at an early age and was baptized at Pleasant View Baptist Church in Columbia, Virginia. In 2007, she and her family moved their membership and joined the Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Richmond, Virginia where she remained a member until her passing.
LaVerne was educated in Cumberland County Schools where she met her childhood sweetheart and the love of her life. She then graduated from Cumberland High School in Cumberland, Virginia in June 1970, and on June 13th, 1970, she married her love, Gerald E. Anderson, Sr. To this union they were blessed with three children, Gerald Jr., Nicole, and Stephanie.
LaVerne moved to Richmond shortly after marriage and took several college courses before choosing a career in the commercial insurance industry. She worked for many years at several insurance firms in the Richmond area such as Markel, A&A, Palmer & Cay, and USI where she retired from in September 2021.
LaVerne had such a beautiful spirit both inside and out. She was a servant leader within her family, community, and church. Always going the extra mile to make a meaningful difference, she made sure the job was done the right way and always with a smile. She was a devoted and faithful member of Mt. Calvary where she served on the Ladies’ Ushers’ Board as President until she retired and taught Sunday School. She was also a dedicated member of the Ladies’ Ushers of Richmond & Vicinity for over 15 years, while serving as President (2016) and advisor for The Youth Ushers’ Ministry of Richmond & Vicinity.
LaVerne loved her Longaberger baskets, collecting angels, doing any kind of puzzle, and anything purple, her favorite color. But, most of all she loved her family. Her children and grandchildren were her joy. She had a very special relationship with each and every one of her grandchildren whom she adored.
She leaves to cherish her memory her three children: son: Gerald E. Anderson, Jr; two daughters: Nicole Anderson and Stephanie Baltimore; her eight grandchildren: Tristan, Alaysiah, Courtland, Tavian, Taylor, Jordan, Jaelyn, and TJ; six great grandchildren: one sister Yvette Thomas; one aunt Courtney Suggs (Andy); two sisters-in-law Linda Hicks and Annette Williams; two brothers-in-law Paul Anderson and Richard Lewis; her best friend for life Shirley Lipscombe and two very devoted, close friends Dee Williams and Pearl Bush; along with a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
