Larry Patterson Obituary

Larry Garnell Patterson the son of Lucille and Authur Lee Opie and Thomas Louden (Bobbi) passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, September 8, 2021. He was predeceased by his son Larry Jones (Pooh), granddaughter Kaidence Patterson and his sister Angela Collins.

Larry joined the Cloverdale Baptist Church at an early age and joined the Cloverdale Usher board and participated in some of the plays. He worked as a custodian at the University of Virginia Hospital and at Fluvanna County Schools. He as last employed by the Organic Butcher and Reids Supermarket. He was also an active member of the Cloverdale hunted club.

Larry was affectionately known as “scrap Iron” and “Loddi Pudding.” There was nothing he wouldn’t try to do. Larry was a great husband, a great provider, father, and grandfather (the grandchildren had him wrapped around their fingers.) he very seldom said no to them. He was a great son, brother (his sister Angela would say, “Imma tell MA “When she thought Larry was out of line.) He was a great uncle and cousin too. Even though Larry was a man of few words as some would say he was a Big Jokester, “The life of the party.” He said what he meant but he also meant what he said. Most of all he was a great friend. There weren’t too many places you could go, and someone did not know “Larry Patterson.” He had quite few special buddies including Perry White, Fritzell Gregory, Early Winfield, Charles Miller Robert Collins, Jerome Wheeler, and his fishing partner George Ferguson and his buddy Clifford White (aka Weed) ….to many to name them all.

Larry had many hobbies and abounded in everything he did. He loved playing spades and football, no team but the Redskins would do. He couldn’t wait to call his friends after a Redskins win. He also loved those North Carolina Tar heels. He did much trash talking about his favorite teams. He hunted and fished every chance he got. Whatever he caught or killed he was always willing to share with people.

He is survived by his wife Angela of 32 years, his son Quincy Patterson (Alicia), daughter Adalia Patterson (Tyrone) both of Palmyra, 4 precious grandchildren Kaniya Jones, Tylia Sloan, Ayden Sloan, and Aubree Patterson, his parents Lucille and Authur Lee Opie and Thomas Louden, 3 sisters Lesa Williams (Welford) of Bremo Bluff, Sherri Martin(Maurice) of Austin Tx Monica McConico(Daniel) of High Point, North Carolina and two brothers Terri and Authur Opie both of Bremo Bluff and a host of many nieces, nephews cousins and other relatives including 1 aunt Fannie Louden of Esmont and Two devoted uncles James Johnson of Palmyra and Cornelius Patterson of Arvonia and Mason Louden of Baltimore Maryland and Harrison Louden of Charlottesville Va. One Great Uncle, George Patterson Jr. of Charlottesville VA.
