James Opie Obituary

James Allen Opie “Jim Allen” of Bremo Bluff, Va., born on January 18,1939 entered into eternal rest on October 2, 2020. He was the son of the late Edgar James Opie and Mary Ann Christopher Opie. He was preceded in death by eight brothers and two sisters.
James was a kind hearted man who would do whatever he could to help someone. He was a down to earth good ole country man and he enjoyed country living. He was a game hunter, fisherman, gardener and a lover of sports and wrestling. His favorite football team was the “Washington Red Skins,” he was true to his team. Although he was blind, he didn’t want to wear no other hat but the “Red Skins.”
James Allen Opie had a big dashing smile always showing his sparkling “Gold Tooth. “ He had a distinctive laugh; you could hear his laughter from down the road. When he and his brothers and other relatives got together, what a time they would have.  He joined Cloverdale Baptist Church at a young age. He sang with Cloverdale’s Male Chorus, although he was losing his vision he continued to sing. His devoted nephews Clark and William Opie would pick him up for church and safely guide him. James loved to sing but because of his vision he had to resign. Although his vision was gone, it didn’t stop him from hearing the gospel on TV.  He was diligent about the gospel and could tell you what  service  was coming on and what channel to turn to.

James married Gloria Hill Opie on September 3, 1977. Through their union they had two children, James Allen Opie Jr. and Marquita Andrea Opie (Kita).  James Allen Opie was a loving husband, father and uncle of eleven children. James was a hard working family man, he loved his family. He had a blended family of nine children and raised a niece and nephew.

He had a true love and soft heart for children; he would spoil them with his love, money and sweets. His children didn’t lack
for anything; he worked hard to provide for them.
He will be missed by so many that loved him. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of forty-three years Gloria Opie; Brother, Arthur Opie (Lucille); Son, James Allen Opie Jr; Daughters; Marquita Andrea Opie, Barbra James, Rose Agee
(Joe), Alberta Boykin (Harry), Pattie Opie, Lisa Hill, Melissa Hill, Alberta Moffitt; Nephew, Anthony Davis; Niece, Tabu Nicholas; Devoted Grandson, Dennis Hill; Sixteen Grandchildren, Thirty two Great-Grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.
