Life and Legacy
Gregory Nelson Thomas or "Greg" as he was affectionately called was born to the late Arthur and Sadie Thomas on December 21st, 1958 in Fluvanna, Virginia. He was preceded in death by his brother Arthur Baskfield and his son Gregory Thomas, Jr.
He was educated in Fluvanna County Schools. He was employed by The Michie Company for over 20 years. He then became an entrepreneur and owned his own cleaning business for some time before becoming employed by Charlottesville City Schools where he recently retired from on July 1st, 2023.
Greg was grateful for the simple pleasures in life knowing the importance of family and friendship. Taking care of home was his first priority. Greg had a love for cooking and opening his home to all his family and friends. His second love was his cars, trucks, rims and tinted windows, a must on every vehicle he owned. He kept them clean all day, everyday. Not a day went by that he was not outside wiping down his vehicles, and if your car was in the yard long enough you might have rims on it too! Greg would help anyone and do anything he could for someone in need. He was a very caring person to all who knew him. Greg was always the conversationalist, if that's one thing he could do, he could talk. His conversations with God were most important to him and every morning he got on his knees to talk with God.
He is survived by his loving and caring wife, Yvette; two children, Atwan Thomas and Tashika Brooks; three step-children, Ernest Jr, Terrell, and Quincy; One sister, Coretta Jackson and one brother Joseph Thomas (Denice); two sisters-in-laws, LaVerne Anderson and Yvonne Lewis (Richard) Four grandchildren, Shamya Thomas, DreShawn, Taniyah and Khari Brooks; seven step-grandchildren; two aunts, Earnestine and Elaine Thomas; one nephew, Arthur "Butch" Baskfield Jr; five nieces, Tonella Jackson, Gabrielle Booker, Gazelle, Shannon, and Erica Thomas; a host of cousins and friends; Very special and devoted friends, George Richardson, John Miller, and Charles Porter.
