Frank Garland Barksdale Jr returned to his Heavenly Father on March 3,
2024.
Frank fondly known as Smokey, was born March 24, 1956, in Brooklyn New
York to the late Frank Garland Barksdale Sr and Roberta Hansen
Barksdale.
Frank grew up in Brooklyn, New York and attended the public schools until
he joined the United States Army. In his tenue in the service, he worked as
a Unit Supply Specialist, Visual Information Chief, and Army Recruiter. He
received, two Army Accommodation medals and three Army Achievement medals
along with numerous other medals and ribbons for his service. Frank
retired from the Army in 1994 and pursued employment with the U.S. Post
Office for five years. After leaving the Post Office he decided to drive 18
wheelers for Heartland until 2010. He then pursued to drive locally until July
of 2021.
Frank was a lovable person always making you smile and always had a
joke to tell to make you laugh. He had a gift of gab and was a stranger to
no one. His favorite hobbies were fishing, cooking and barbecuing.
Frank loved the Lord and always referred to GOD as the Big Guy and he
referred to Jesus as Jerusalem Slim. His favorite scriptures were Psalms
133 and Ecclesiastes 12: 1-7.
Frank was preceded in death by his father Frank Garland Barksdale Sr, one
half-brother, Gregory Coachman and Grandparents.
He leaves to cherish his memories his beautiful wife and best friend Carla
Barksdale of 44 years, one son Frank Barksdale III, one daughter Jazzmyn
Barksdale, his mother Roberta Hanson, stepmother Georgia Barksdale,
and one adopted daughter Maude Heatley. three grandchildren Mylo
Barksdale, Ammirah and Ammarah Israel, three adopted grandchildren; Amaya,
Aislynn and Austynn Keller. Lifelong friends Mr. Anthony Teal and Mrs.
Sonde and Lawrence Killings. Fishing buddies Royce Dennis, Charles Ball
and Victor Draper along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and
other family & friends.
Frank will truly be missed on this side of Heaven by many. His favorite
saying was “Either you are going to get busy living or are you going to get
busy dying, but I am going to LIVE.
