Eugene Chambers Obituary

After a brief, but devastating illness, angels escorted Eugene to his heavenly home on Tuesday, January
3, 2023. Eugene Garrick Chambers was born on Sunday, January 6, 1957, to the late Aaron Edward and
Alice Booker Chambers. On April 21, 1979, he was united in marriage to Marjorie Dean Chambers.
In addition to his parents, Eugene was preceded in death by two brothers, John and Calvin and two
sisters, Vesta and Adell.
Eugene accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Mourning Valley Baptist Church (now
Morning Valley) in Dillwyn, Virginia.  November 2018, he joined Third Liberty Baptist Church to worship
with his wife, daughter, and grandson. Eugene was an active member until his health began to fail two
months ago. He oversaw the sound system during services and held this position with great pride.
Eugene would help in any capacity needed at Third Liberty for he was a man of many trades.
He graduated from Buckingham County High School in 1975. After graduation, Eugene worked at
Uniroyal Textile in Scottsville for close to 35 years until the company relocated overseas. Immediately, he
found employment at Wal-Mart Distribution. He was there for less than one year before his friend Keith
helped him get a job at the University of Virginia Facilities Management department where he retired July
6, 2020.
Eugene was the most energetic, full-loving, people-oriented person anyone could meet. He had a
profound love for God, family, the Dallas Cowboys, family events, telling jokes, music, and entertaining
people with his dancing skills. He was fondly known to family and friends as Showtime, a name pinned by
his friend Kenny. He would spend hours listening to music. His greatest joy in life was LaToya and Jaylen.
He would often tell people about them. Even during his stay in the hospital, he shared information with the
nurses and doctors about them.
Eugene will be remembered for his strong love, contagious smile, his kind disposition, respect, and
willingness to help people in the community, especially the elderly and his incredible zest for life, but more
so his relationship with God.
He leaves to cherish these memories to his wife of 43 years, Marjorie, the most precious gifts from God,
daughter LaToya, and grandson Jaylen; five brothers, Hezekiah (Deborah) of Scottsville, Clarence of
Buckingham, Martin (Vanessa) of Arvonia, Marvin (Ozella) of Charlottesville and William (Carolyn) of
Buckingham; six sisters, Odie Christine Armstrong (George) Dillwyn, Marie Ann Chambers (Buckingham),
Marilyn Carson (Ezekiel), Inez Anderson (Curtis) of Dillwyn, Alice and Virginia Chambers of Richmond,
VA. He also leaves to cherish his memories, his mother-n-law, Betty W. Dean, an uncle and aunt,
Nathaniel and Cora Booker of North Carolina, a sister-n-law Dale Chambers and a host of wonderful
nieces, nephews, great nieces, and nephews who he loved dearly and close friends. A very devoted
cousin Marcus M. Johnson, devoted friends Thomas A. Woodson, Kenny Washington, Elder Michael
Williams, Melvin and Thomas "Lonnie " Jones and Keith Woodson and longtime classmate, Amanda
Baker Duncan.
