On Sunday, October 23, 2022 God called our beloved Deacon Delano “Dicky” Scruggs to eternal rest. He was born on January 18, 1945 to the late Bennie & Martha Scruggs, in New Canton, Virginia.
At a early age Dicky joined the New Hope Baptist Church, of New Canton, VA, later transferring his membership to the Third Liberty Baptist Church; There were he was an Ordained Deacon, under the leadership of Pastor R. Q. Lawing, Pastor Roderick Galloway, and current, Pastor Kippy L. Lundy. He was employed by many jobs including, Uniroyal Tire Company, The Hilton, Fork Union Military Academy, and after twenty-one years, he retired as a transporter for the University of Virginia Medical Center, Charlottesville, Virginia.
On February 1, 1964, Dicky married his best friend and soulmate, Deaconess Jean W. Scruggs, this union conceived six children. He was proceeded in death by his parents; Two children, Gloria Jean Scruggs and Ricky Edward Scruggs; and four brothers.
He leaves to cherish his loving memories to wife, Deaconess Jean W. Scruggs, of New Canton, Virginia; one son, Franklin “Junnie” Scruggs (Erica), of California; Three daughters, Martha “Marie” Watson (Gregory, Sr.), of Arvonia, Virginia, Angela “Lissa” Anderson (Leroy), of Farmville, Virginia and Jackie C. Scruggs, of New Canton, Virginia; daughter in-law, Cassandra B. Scruggs, of New Canton, Virginia; his sixteen grandchildren, devoted and faithful granddaughter, Sheena M. Scruggs; Gregory Jr, Antonio, Shawanda, Yulonda, Anthony, Tenesha, Kayla, Cameron, Cody, Caleb, Natasha, Shanice, Darius, Juliet, and Frances; his in-laws, Charlie Woodson, Barbara Richmond, Frank Woodson, Michael Woodson (Teresa), Hattie McClure (Jeffrey), Gail Brown (Charles), and Inez Woodson; nineteen great-grandchildren, friends, family and other relatives.
