LIFE STORY
On Monday, September 28, 2021, Evangelist Carol Bernice Merritt was called to Heaven at her home in Arvonia, VA. Our Lord Blessed Evangelist Merritt with a peaceful transition.
Sister Merritt was born February 3, 1953, to the late John and Essie Jackson. She was the fourth born of ten siblings. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and aunt.
Sister Merritt attended school in Buckingham County and Richmond Va. After graduating from Huguenot High School, she was employed at Vepco /Dominion Energy for 20 years. She retired and went to work at the Bank of America in Inns Brook, Glen Allen VA for 3 years. She decided to start her own florist business in Richmond, VA. Where she made and delivered her own flowers. She moved back to Buckingham in 2001 and retired.
Sister Merritt was baptized at an early age at Baptist Union Baptist Church in Dillwyn. VA. Where she participated in the Mass Choir and served on the Usher Board.
Sister Merritt was ordained in 2018 under the late Rev. William Merritt at Mt. Woodlawn Baptist Church of Afton, VA.
Evangelist Merritt was preceded in death by husband Rev. William Merritt Jr. of 30 years.
She leaves to cherish her precious memories. Her devoted daughter Angela Hammitt, four stepchildren; Marquita and Marlin Merritt, Rodney Smith and Keshia Jones, one devoted granddaughter Ebony Robinson; one grandson Khalil Hammitt and two great grandchildren Patricia Langhorne and Lionel Bright Jr., nine siblings James Jackson, Essie Marie Johnson (Daniel), Theodore Jackson (Shirley), Adell Johnson. Kenneth Jackson. Julia Anthony (James), Jerry, Tony, and Janet Jackson; six aunts, a host of nieces, nephews. Cousins and friends.
Evangelist Merritt was loved by everyone and will be missed by all.
