Alonza White Obituary

 

 

 

On Wednesday, January 31, 2024, Alonzo “Lonnie” White, 67, became absent from the
body, yet present with the Lord.
Alonzo, known as “Lonnie” to his family and friends, was born to Mother Cleo White Opie
on December 18, 1956. He was raised in Buckingham, VA and was educated in the
Buckingham County School System. Lonnie enjoyed football & played football while in high
school. After graduating, Lonnie was employed by the Uniroyal Tire CO. until it was shut
down. He was later employed in the Fluvanna and Buckingham School system as a
custodian.

On  Lonnie's birthday, December 18, 1999, he married the love of his life, the late Mary Opie-
White. The two were more than husband and wife, they were best friends. They enjoyed
nearly twenty-two years of marriage until Mary’s passing in 2021. 

He was predeceased by his son ,Alonza Jr. during childbirth.

Lonnie was a devoted, faithful & dedicated Christian. He was an active member of the

Third Liberty Baptist Church, in New Canton, VA., served as a trustee and member
of the men’s choir. He also would faithfully park cars, set up, clean up and any other duties
needed before special events at TLBC.
Lonnie was a quiet man, but was always eager to assist in any way possible. He
loved spending quality time with his family and friends. He enjoyed playing cards, especially
“my-my”, throwing horseshoes, & watching his favorite team, the Dallas Cowboys.
Lonnie was preceded in death by his wife, Mary; son, Alonzo Jr; twin brother, Oscar
“Benny” White, sister, Dora Opie: grandmother, Susie White & stepfather, Bernard Opie.


He is survived by his beloved mother, Cleo White Opie; two sisters, Sharon Opie-Bowles
& Jane Opie-Brown (James); two brothers, Calvin & Jeffrey Opie (Ethel): two aunts, Joyce
Walters & Lula Fleming (Dave); three uncles, Samuel White (Roberta), Leroy White
(Catherine) & Albert White (Lisa); brother- in-law, Howard Opie (Audrey); nieces and
nephews, devoted Cousins, Beverly & Cecil Haskins; host of additional relatives & friends.
